Active Schools Program
The Challenges
Each
year the Active Schools Activity Challenge brings some very cool,
fun and wild adventures for students to follow and be a part of.
We think that being fit is something
we all need to do, but learning while you do it is much more fun.
So, we've incorporated a number of fun and interesting educational
programs into our Activity Challenge ... and they're all about
Canada. In 1929, the Royal Canadian Geographical Society set their
mandate to be: “To tell Canadians and the world about Canada!”
Well, the Active Schools Activity Challenge decided to do exactly
that, “To tell Canadians and the world about Canada –
One Step at a Time.”
Yes, by being part of the challenge
you will learn about Canada, its beauty and it’s geography.
In fact, our challenges are all Canadian and all fun. We have
some virtual adventures with different routes so you can be your
own explorer. Along the way you will discover facts & figures
about various apsects and areas of Canada on the road to a healthier
and more active lifestyle. Here are a few scheduled for 2008 for
you to explore!
Summits of Canada –
a journey to the highest point of every Province and Territory
in Canada. Come see if you can climb to the top of PEI, Ontario
of even to the top of Canada!
Mount Logan –
come climb to the top of Canada with a real ‘live’
expedition team while they are on the mountain sharing the challenge,
the climb from their satellite phone to your classroom computers.
Tour Canada –
a cross country tour, coast to coast seeing the beauty and sites
along the way.
Tour British Columbia –
travelling across the Province of BC seeing the super-natural
beauty and the animals.
Tour Manitoba –

Capital of the world in Churchill, the historic Lower Fort Gary
National Historic Site located north of Winnipeg, to the wonderful
lakes and parks through out lower Manitoba.
Tour Ontario –

to the Northern Lights, by way of walking, skiing and even dog
sledding.
Happy Birthday BC, 150 years
– a journey through the ages of this special Province
from corner to corner and all the way up to the highest point,
“Mount Fairweather” with a ‘live’ expedition
team on the mountain to your classroom.
