The Climbs - Saskatchewan: Cypress Hills
The
Summits of Canada Expedition began with the first
climb on June 25, 2006. The team continued their quest by
summiting (er ... walking onto) the "peak" of
Saskatchewan in November, 2011. Click
here for more details and information about this unique
Canadian highpoint. |

James & Len reached the highpoint
of Saskatchewan at 07:32, Nov. 7, 2011 after crawling out of their
sleeping bags at first light some 500 meters horizontal distance
from the highpoint south of the Cypress Hills. The party had to
endure a near full moon and a pack of wandering coyotes in frigid
surroundings as they took in the incredible horizon from their
bivy site. Following exploration of the Cypress Hills and the
historic Fort Walsh (the first established outpost in western
Canada of the North West Mounted Police - year: 1875), James &
Len explored Dinosaur Provincial Park and the Kananaskis portion
of the Rocky Mountains to round out their travels. Wildlife seen
included white-tail and mule deer, elk, moose, eagles and other
birds of prey and a number of small mammals.
